“My time in NYC was life-changing. I felt like I was at ground zero in the prolife ministry. Faced with the overwhelming numbers of woman and their complex psychosocial needs, I was aware of my own inadequacy compared to God’s surpassing glory. As I learned to navigate the NYC subway system and talked with women from a variety of cultural backgrounds, I was stretched out of my comfort zone and my faith was strengthened. I was blessed to have some time to explore the vibrant, colorful city and enjoy New York pizza and bagels!

“Working in NYC was awesome! The city itself is amazing. I felt that the patients were very open and willing to talk, willing to listen to the gospel. There seems to be a greater need for Spanish and French speakers so did have to work with interpreters but it was very smooth. Loved my time there!”

“I was amazed at the friendliness of New Yorkers! Once when we had our phones in our faces, trying to find the subway station, a man called out to us from a distance away, in order to give us directions! He went out of his way to help.
 
The power and glory of God is displayed in a greater way in NYC. Maybe it is because the need is more evident, but the light of Christ shines brighter in the darkness! We saw Him do miracles in the hearts of women!”

“I thought that perhaps women would have harder hearts here in NYC and be more difficult to talk with but I quickly discovered that is simply not the case. In some ways these precious women are more willing to listen to the truth about their pregnancy and even talk about the plan of God for their lives. I just served a young woman this week who came in stating she needed an abortion but after seeing her 15 week old on the ultrasound monitor, admitted that having an abortion wasn’t really what she wanted. She just didn’t know what a path forward could look like. Thankfully, we’re able to help connect her with a vast array of supportive agencies throughout her community.”

I was scared to come to New York City, but my mind has been completely changed. It’s not at all what I imagined. It is a beautiful mission field where women are needing guidance, support, and God’s love, and the gospel can be easily shared!

I’m so glad I had this opportunity to serve pregnant women in this area of our state. It gave me a lot of experience and helped me see the miraculous work of God in the lives of those who desperately need Him!
